Things to Do Near Texas Medical Center & Riverside Terrace
This is the Houston trip guide for people already staying (or considering) Ozark Houston at 3534 Ozark St., Riverside Terrace — next to the Texas Medical Center geography, not inside a hotel. It is the parent page for “things to do near TMC / Hermann Park / Riverside Terrace,” not a branded scavenger hunt.
The house itself: 4 bedrooms, 8 queen beds, 16 guests. Book the house if you still need the beds. If you already have dates, use the drive table below and the child guides.
Drive times from the house
| Place | Typical | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Texas Medical Center | 8–12 min | 15–20 at rush hour |
| Hermann Park / Zoo / Museum District | 8–12 min | Best first-day outdoor plan |
| Downtown / Discovery Green | 10–15 min | 20–25 at rush hour |
| NRG Park | 12–18 min | 20–30 after events |
| HEB (groceries) | ~5 min | Shop the day you arrive |
| Hobby Airport | ~15 min | IAH is 30–40 |
Street parking at the house is free; the garage is not for guests. For first-time Houston parking (stadium, museum garages, Downtown), see Houston parking for first-time visitors if that guide is live.
What is not “near Ozark Houston”
Galveston is about an hour. NASA Johnson is a south-side half day. The Menil Collection is closer to a Museum District / Montrose trip than a walk. The Galleria is a west-side drive, not a neighborhood errand. If a blog told you those were “minutes away,” it was selling the house, not the map.
Walkable from the porch: a residential street. For 16 guests, assume cars or rideshare for every attraction on this page.
A realistic first day (not 12 stops)
Morning: Hermann Park loop or Houston Zoo. Lunch in the Museum District. One museum — MFAH or the Children’s Museum — not three. Back to the house before rush hour. The timed version is Best Day Ever in Houston.
With kids, prefer free things to do with kids and the Museum District parks guide. With teens: Houston with teens.
Food and groceries for 16
Do not restaurant every meal. HEB is five minutes; the chef’s kitchen and 7×7 table are why the house exists. Grocery and meal planning for large groups is the shopping list. For a sit-down night, start with restaurants near Riverside Terrace rather than a 40-minute drive to a famous name.
If the week has a magnet
- TMC appointments: vacation rental near Texas Medical Center — this guide is the afternoon off, not the stay.
- NRG event: stay near NRG Stadium.
- Day trips: Galveston and NASA Johnson are real half-days, not “10 minutes.” Day trips: Galveston, NASA, more.
- Festivals: Houston cultural festivals.
Two more days if you have them
Museum day: One building in the Museum District (MFAH or HMNS), lunch nearby, Hermann Park train or lake if kids are in the group, home. Do not add Downtown at 4 PM.
Event day: If NRG is the magnet, the rest of Houston can wait. If TMC is the magnet, the rest of Houston should wait. This guide exists so the leftover hours are not filled with a 12-stop itinerary from a generic Houston listicle.
Festivals and seasonal noise: cultural festivals. Evening ideas that are not a club crawl: the child posts under this hub beat another “top 10 Houston” roundup.
Photographers who want a short list of exteriors: Instagram-worthy spots near Ozark Houston — still a drive, still not a substitute for the park.
Frequently asked questions
Is Ozark Houston walkable to Hermann Park or TMC?
No. Plan on an 8–12 minute drive to both. Rideshare is easy; do not expect a sidewalk commute with 16 people.
What is actually close?
Riverside Terrace / MacGregor, a nearby HEB, and a short drive to TMC, Hermann Park, and the Museum District. Downtown and NRG are the next ring, not the front yard.
Should we rent a car?
For a 16-person stay, yes — at least one or two. Rideshare works for a couple; it does not scale to zoo + grocery + TMC drop-off.
Where do we book the house?
book-ozark-houston or 346-656-3321.
